dopo qualche interessante concertino estivo e in mezzo alle registrazioni del nuovo entusiasmante capolavoro, il fungo chiude momentaneamente le saracinesche.

recensione su un magazine olandese (qui gentilmente tradotta in inglese) di Better Than Jesus: Here’s another new Italian progrock formation, it’s the five piece band Fungus that was founded in 2002. In 2004 they released the EP Careful and now, six years later, Fungus presents their debut album with the slightly provocative title Better Than Jesus. The music is a wonderful trip to the era between the late Sixties and early Seventies, I notice obvious hints of Pink Floyd and The Doors (especially because of the Jim Morrison-like vocals in several tracks). The Hammond organ freaks will be delighted, most of the 8 tracks contain cascades of Hammond organ, often in strong interplay with the powerful and fiery guitar work. The most captivating element in Fungus their sound is the combination of pure rock and psychedelia and the intense, pretty emotional moments. This adds a special flavour like the sensitive electric guitar with organ in the excellent first composition Share Your Suicide, the dreamy acoustic guitar with warm vocals and piano in Hang On Your Lips and the twanging acoustic guitar, beautiful piano play and romantic vocals in Eternal Mind (it reminds me a little bit of The Crystal Ship by The Doors). Good musical ideas can also be found in Logical Fish (a strongly build-up synthesizer solo) and the instrumental Spammology (swinging with funky bass and delicate interplay between guitar, organ and piano). My first musical encounter with Fungus their music turned out to be a very pleasant one, what an exciting musical time travel!

sezione ritmica!

Batterie terminate, in scioltezza; tra la sera del 30/3 e la mattina del 31/3 è stata la volta dei bassi: quasi tutto Fender Jazz (Classic 70's, messicano, corde rotosound per chi lo vuol sapere) leggermente "sporcato" da VT Bass. Stamattina, 31 marzo, aggiunta di "fungus bass" e Ashbory (per una brevissima parte, all'inizio di Requiem), nonché delle parti con il Bass Synth Electro-harmonix (piccole, ma invadenti!).
Manca solo un brano al Musicman Stingray.

Drums!

In un paio di giorni le batterie sono pressoché terminate, manca ancora qualche piccola rifinitura, ma il preciso Cajo ha svolto egregiamente il suo compito!
Poi, comincerà il basso (anzi, I BASSI)

day one & two

Batteria montata il venerdì sera; ardua scelta tra differenti rullanti! Il sabato mattina é dedicato a registrare le "guide" per il nostro drummer. Tutto a metronomo!

Le prove ci stanno portando alla definizione dei brani. Gli arrangiamenti si stanno delineando. A marzo si registra?
E poi... qualcuno è interessato a produrci? Fatecelo sapere!

Tracklist

I lavori fervono, attualmente i brani in "candidate list" sono dieci, con un'alternanza di toni che va dalla ballata malinconica alla schizofrenia spezzata passando da ombrosi tratteggi notturni e da un'immancabile "share your suicide", giunta al terzo episodio.
